CJC: How did you get started as an author and what made you want to pursue that field?

MF: I’ve always wanted to be a writer, ever since childhood. I was forever writing stories. I decided I wanted to pursue it as a career after I’d finished my degree and realized I’d spent all my time writing and sending off short stories. It was my twelve-year publishing anniversary a few days ago!

CJC: What do you find to be the most rewarding and challenging part of being an author and what hurdles have you overcome while striving towards your goals?

MF: Most rewarding is hearing from readers who have totally understood and ‘got’ my books, and who have been affected by something I’ve written. I had one reader contact me to say she’d left her abusive husband after reading one of my books where the main character does the same. That kind of thing means a lot! Most challenging is trying to juggle family life with work, but I’m sure that’s the same for most working parents.

CJC: Which novel has been your favorite to write and why?

MF: You can’t make me choose! Lol.

CJC: For first time readers of your work, which book would you recommend?

MF: I’d probably recommend the ‘Monster’ trilogy. It was my first dark romance series and still one of my favorites. Or else you can try out ‘Cold Hard Kisses’ which releases today and can be read with Kindle Unlimited.

CJC: If one of your books were made into a movie, which would you select and who would you like to star in it?

MF: That’s a hard question too! I have sooo many books to choose from. I think I’d choose my dark vampire ‘Serenity’ series. I’d have Natalie Portman play Serenity, and Jamie Dornan as Sebastian (because of his role in The Fall, not Fifty Shades!).

CJC: For those looking to become an author, what advice would you give them?

MF: Finish your books, even if they’re a mess! You can always improve on a manuscript, but unless you get that baby done, you won’t have anything to work with.

CJC: If you could co-write a book with any author, who would it be and why?

MF: That’s another hard one! There are so many incredible authors out there! I’m also a genre-hopper, both with my reading and writing, so narrowing it down to just one would be so hard. Okay, I’m going to say Stephen King, cause he’s a total legend!

 CJC: Favorite motto?

MF: If you believe you can, you will.

CJC: What do you do to overcome writer’s block?

MF: I’ve never had writer’s block! *touches wood*

CJC: In one word, how would you describe your writing style?

MF: Intense. I don’t do light and fluffy!

CJC: Which do you find harder to do… writing the blurb for your story or selecting the cover?

MF: A million times the blurb! I always know exactly what I want from a cover.

CJC: Which author inspires you the most and why?

MF: My writer buddies inspire me the most! Tracie Delaney is my sprint partner and keeps me on track every day. My co-authors, M A Comley and S R Jones. My editor and cover designer, Emmy Ellis, who also writes amazing books. Seeing authors like Angel Lawson hitting #1 in the whole Amazon store! Honestly, I could go on for days! They’re all total rockstars.

CJC: What is your writing process like?

MF: Chaotic! I’m a pantser and never plot, and I write out of order, too. Never be like me. Lol.

CJC: What new projects are you currently working on and what are your goals for the remainder of the year?

MF: I’m currently finishing edits on book two of my London Mafia Kings series – Cold Cruel Hearts. Book one, Cold Hard Kisses, releases today! Then I’m writing for my pen name M K Farrar – which I write police procedural crime as (I told you I was a genre hopper!). Then I’m starting a new co-write the with awesome S R Jones.

CJC: Any final thoughts you would like to share with the CJC Photography readers?

MF: I hope you enjoyed the interview and I hope you’ll go and check out Cold Hard Kisses! If you want a free prequel to the series, you can download a copy of Soft Steel Surrender when you join my newsletter! Enjoy! https://BookHip.com/NGTPTBL

CJC: Thank you so much Marissa for taking time to partake in this interview. I can’t wait to read Cold Hard Kisses and see it in print!
