Model Spotlight: John Quinlan

John QuinlanModel Spotlight: John Quinlan

John Quinlan is a Boston based model and is currently the most tattooed male romance cover model in the world.

1) How does it feel to be referred to as the most tattooed male romance cover model in the world?

I have always liked to be unique and do things my own way so this just goes right along with everything else. I really think it is great as it separates me a bit from my romance cover model brothers. I bring a new look to the table of romance and I think that is refreshing in the new millennium with tattoos being so popular in Hollywood and athletics.

2) You have a very impressive biography, how did you get started in the entertainment industry?

I started off way back in the mid-90’s getting photographed for fitness flyers and brochures in the gym and just expanded a bit as time went on. Health and wellness have always been a passion for me so I think everything just clicked and one thing helped the other.

3) You have been competing since 1998, any pre competition rituals?

After 1998 I took a long break from the competition scene but I was always involved with fitness and athletics. During that time I still modeled in fitness and sports themed projects and was involved with professional wrestling for a few years after that. I never really had any pre-competition rituals but I do always load up on dry cereal before model shoots and shows to this very day. J

4) Known as the “Irish Bad Boy” what did you enjoy the most/least about wrestling and if you could would you do it all again?

First let me answer what I enjoyed the most. I would have to say the atmosphere. When I say atmosphere, it was all the same whether it was during the training at Killer Kowalski’s Pro Wrestling School or at an arena for a show. All of us guys sharing the same desire to be the best and follow our dreams. I made so many great friends during my time in the pro wrestling world; I was blessed to have been part of it. If I had to say the least, I would probably have to go with the injuries. It was always a sprain or a strain of some sort and we all just had to be tough and work through it. There isn’t much time for rest or breaks as a pro wrestler. Many times we performed while hurt. It just was the way it was. I have so much respect for pro wrestlers. To be on your A-game day in and day out and do some of the moves take such talent. 100% respect from me always!

5) For those looking to get in better shape, what advice would you give them?

Read labels as the staple for your nutrition, consistent exercise and drink lots of water.

6) In one word, how would you describe yourself?

Driven.

7) Favorite motto?

“Sometimes to get to Heaven you have to go through Hell.”

John Quinlan

8) It must be hard to pick just one, but what would you say has been your biggest accomplishment to date?

Great question Chris and I agree it is a tough one. I might shock you a bit when I say this but I have to be honest here. It isn’t one specific accolade or award it is the amazing people God has allowed me to meet and become friends with throughout my 2 plus decade long journey in the fitness world. To get mail from people all over the globe wishing me well with love and support is so special to me. To get messages saying I put a smile on a sick child’s face or that I inspired a person to get back on the righteous path is what I am most proud of. I love helping people Chris and they are my greatest accomplishments. J

9) Goals for 2013?

Well, we are in June of 2013 now so I guess I will flashback to January for a moment. I said to myself something along the lines of

….”I would like to make a positive impact as a model in the romance cover world and try and do something productive as a fitness/athlete.” Since then as the most tattooed male romance cover model in the world I have over a dozen book covers in the works in the romance world. I was also a cover model at the 30th Annual RT Booklovers Convention this past May in Kansas City, MO. I have been invited back in 2014 as an Official RT Man of Romance Cover Model in New Orleans which I am honored about. Just this month I signed on as an exclusive model with the best cover artist in the world, Claudia McKinney of Phatpuppy Art Designs. Being a cover model for Claudia is an honor as she is so very talented and I look forward to many of our covers being claimed by some great authors that are out there. My grandfather who was like my real father passed away a couple months ago in late March and I promised him minutes before God called him home I would win a Physique show and dedicate it to him. One month to the day of his death I competed as a Men’s Physique competitor at the 2013 NPC Vermont Bodybuilding Championships and placed 1st in both the Men’s Open Division, the Men’s Master’s Division and won the Overall Men’s Physique Championship that night. I dedicated my winning all 3 titles to my grandfather, Bill Hafner; the greatest man I have ever known. To do that for him was one of the greatest nights of my life.
