Photographer Spotlight: Emma Jane Photography | CJC Photography

Photographer Spotlight: Emma Jane Photography

CJC: How did you get started with your photography business and how did that lead into the book cover industry?

EJ: I have been a wedding photographer for almost 19 years.  During Covid I took up reading romance novels and with each cover I thought.. wow I could do this. I waited a bit before I really did anything about it but in 2022, I started asking around, talking to a few Authors whom books I loved and I got a model from TT and that’s how it started!

CJC: Is there a photo shoot concept/theme you have never done and have always wanted to?

EJ: I used to create styles shoots for other Photographers and have done themes like Masquerade, Les Miserables, Alice in Wonderland, Sunflower Country.. just to name a few.  Probably something totally Purple… or honestly, I do have an idea for a music themed shoot.

CJC: Are there any business learnings you have acquired over the years that you wish you had known at the beginning? What advice would you give your former self?

EJ: Dont buy every “new shiny” gadget out there. Really research if it’s needed.  The customer isn’t always right 🙂 LOL and to be AUTHENTIC.

CJC: If you could travel anywhere in the world for a photo shoot, where would you go and why?

EJ: Greece! The Architecture and culture.. The water…  Everything about it calls to me!

CJC: What is something most people don’t know or might be surprised to learn about you?

EJ: I was born in London.

CJC: When you’re not working, what do you like to do in your downtime?

EJ: I am an avid romance reader now so I love to relax outside by the pool with my kindle.

CJC: Do you ever experience a creative block and how do you overcome it?

EJ: YES! Usually if I am anxious or a bit depressed (which happens).  I clean up my space (if its messy I can’t think) and look for inspiration in places other than other book covers…

CJC: What do you find to be the most rewarding and challenging part of your business and what hurdles have you overcome while striving towards your goals?

EJ: I LOVE being able to create and to have freedom in the Studio.  Seeing characters in my head that I can try to bring to life… It’s fun.  Also, I am not going to lie, it’s not hard on the eyes either.  🙂

As far as challenging, getting my name out there.  I put myself out there in shooting Book Signing Events so I could network and meet Authors and Readers.. This has helped immensely, but it’s still an ongoing work in progress.

CJC: Are there any final thoughts you would like to share with the CJC Photography readers?

EJ: I love that the book community is so welcoming.  The other Photographers included.   You all have shared advice, given feedback, etc and that’s not always the case when people are doing the same thing.. truly community over competition and I love that!
