Author Spotlight: S. Courtney

Hooked by S. Courtney

CJC: How did you get started as an author and what made you want to pursue that field?

SC: I’ve always loved to write, since grade school. It was my escape from normal life, living vicariously through my characters. I stopped writing during my time in the Air Force but it came roaring back after I got out.

CJC: What do you find to be the most rewarding and challenging part of being an author and what hurdles have you overcome while striving towards your goals?

SC: Rewarding: knowing my words are out here forever. A small mark on the world.

Challenging: stubborn characters! Or characters who jump the line to get their story out first.

There’s always imposter syndrome looming around the corner but having author friends who go through it, let’s me know I can work past it.

CJC: Which novel has been your favorite to write and why?

SC: Ooh, that’s a toughie! There’s been two, one is Sandman because I bought the cover before the story was even written! And an upcoming release, Devil in the Bookstore because it’s a very dark romance theme and out of my comfort zone!

CJC: For first time readers of your work, which book would you recommend?

SC: Ahh! Depends, for paranormal Sandman, for MC Wrecked.

CJC: If one of your books were made into a movie, which would you select and who would you like to star in it?

SC: Assassinated by Love and I’d want Michele Marrone to play Colin.

CJC: For those looking to become an author, what advice would you give them?

SC: Remember that no one writes the story like you! There may be thousands of versions but none with your POV. Please write the book!

CJC: If you could co-write a book with any author, who would it be and why?

SC: One of my best author friends across the pond, Ruby Carter. She helped me so much in the beginning.

CJC: Favorite motto?

SC: Love yourself.

CJC: What do you do to overcome writer’s block?

SC: DIY projects, every time my attention goes elsewhere one of my characters speaks up. Like clockwork.

CJC: In one word, how would you describe your writing style?

SC: Chaotic!

CJC: Which do you find harder to do… writing the blurb for your story or selecting the cover?

SC: Cover.

CJC: Do you have authors who inspire you? And if so, who and why?

SC: All my indie author friends. They give me the encouragement to continue.

CJC: What is your writing process like?

SC: I am a combination pantser/plotter. I usually just start writing but come to find out I do need to write down important notes/details.

CJC: What new projects are you currently working on and what are your goals for the remainder of the year?

SC: I write multiple WIPs at once so I have Devil in the Bookstore coming out in October, Halloween season, very fitting. I have the final book in the Bound Series, Blood Bound, and a Christmas anthology for the Merciless Few.

CJC: Any final thoughts you would like to share with the CJC Photography readers?

SC: Thank you for the opportunity and feel free to follow me on my social medias! I love my readers!

CJC: Hooked: The Merciless Few is now available!
