Author Spotlight: Vera Foxx

Thanatos Craving by Vera Foxx , Vera Foxx Author, Eric Taylor Guilmette Model

How did you get started as an author and what made you want to pursue that field?ย

VF: I’ve always wanted to write. I took a lot of creative writing classes in college but never did anything with it after. I have notebooks of ideas of what I wanted to write but imposter syndrome got the best of me. I didn’t publish my first book until 2021 because I was worried no one would like it. Luckily, I have some crazy people out there who enjoy my humor and spice.

CJC: What do you find to be the most rewarding and challenging part of being an author and what hurdles have you overcome while striving towards your goals?

VF: The most rewarding thing is having readers message me or write awesome reviews. I love knowing my writing made them escape to somewhere else than they want to be. As a depression sufferer myself I have had a lot of readers say the stories help them get through the day. That is my biggest hurdle too–a chronic depression sufferer along with imposter syndrome are my biggest challenges. Luckily, I’ve got some great friends that push me through.

CJC: Which novel has been your favorite to write and why?

VF: This is hard, but if I had to pick I would say Thorn. It came naturally and was something completely new and out of my territory that I was used to writing. The comedy, and the witty comebacks have been absolutely awesome.

CJC: For first-time readers of your work, which book would you recommend?

VF: I’ve had first-time paranormal readers come to me at a recent conference. They had no clue about werewolf shifters/werewolf romance and I immediately told them Under the Moon. It’s an introduction to werewolves, the magic, the fantasy, and that world that you can use for other paranormal books from other authors. I’m not a dark author, most of my stuff is pretty light so it’s a great one to start with.

CJC: If one of your books were made into a movie, which would you select and who would you like to star in it?

VF: I have such a big series it’s hard to pick one. But if I had to pick I would do The Exiled Dragon Creed would be Jason Momoa and for Odessa Selena Gomez.

CJC: For those looking to become an author, what advice would you give them?

VF: Build your socials. It’s my worst enemy but it is a necessary evil. And one more thing–don’t give up.

CJC: If you could co-write a book with any author, who would it be and why?

VF: I don’t think I would co-write a book with anyone. I’m really guarded with my characters and if I have to share them I don’t know if I would like it. LOL

CJC: Favorite motto?

VF: “Take the risk or lose the chance.”

CJC: What do you do to overcome writer’s block?

VF: Take a nap. Don’t laugh! It works every time!

CJC: In one word, how would you describe your writing style?

VF: Quirky.

CJC: Which do you find harder to do… writing the blurb for your story or selecting the cover?

VF: Both are equally hard. I’d rather look for a book cover than write a blurb though!

CJC: Do you have authors who inspire you? And if so, who and why?

VF: I can’t say just one, and I have way too many to even list. They are all indie authors though, that work their butts off and I’m able to come to them with all the questions.

CJC: What is your writing process like?

VF: I have a basic outline of my story, I sit down start writing and then toss the outline out the window. The characters do what they want.

CJC: What new projects are you currently working on and what are your goals for the remainder of the year?

VF: On May 14th Thanatos’ Craving is coming out on Amazon! I’m super excited! All while that is going on, I’m finishing up my Shifter MC book called Locke. Its the fourth installment in that series. Then I have Valpar, an orc-fated mate, rom-com story that I hope to be done with in September. I have two choices for the third book–continue a series or write a stand-alone. The stand-alone is looking pretty good just to have something new and fresh to write about.

CJC: Any final thoughts you would like to share with the CJC Photography readers?

VF: That Chris is the best ๐Ÿ™‚

CJC: Thanks so much Vera. ๐Ÿ˜Š
