Author Spotlight: J.A. Collard

CJC Photography, Florida photographer, book cover photographer, romance book cover photographer, J.A. Collard author, Riley Rebecca modelCJC: How did you get started as an author and what made you want to pursue that field?

JC: I’ve loved reading from a young age and always had a great imagination. I’d had these characters inside my head from a long time that were begging to be written down. One day, I had put my kids to bed and thought, you know what? I’m just going to try and write this story. Once the words came out, I couldn’t stop. I published my first book in three months and haven’t stopped since.

CJC: What hurdles have your overcome while striving towards your goals?

JC: I guess it would be self doubt. I always thought my work wasn’t good enough to publish, but when I finally did, I never turned back.

CJC: Which novel has been your favorite to write and why?

I’d have to say my recent book, Tess, Property of Blaze. I really stepped out of my comfort zone with this book and went from a romantic author to a Romantic Suspense with a touch of dark to it.

CJC: For those looking to become an author, what advice would you give them?

JC: Just go for it, you have nothing to lose, and you will regret it if you don’t give yourself a chance. You are good enough, always remember that.

CJC: Favorite motto?

“you’ll never know unless you try.”

CJC: In one word, how would you describe your writing style?

Alpha.

CJC: Which author inspires you the most and why?

M.N. Forgy, she was my inspiration to write my own story. I love her work, and her words really took me to another place. I could only dream of having the same effect on others.

CJC: What is your writing process like?

JC: I don’t really have a process. I think I’m one of the handful of authors who don’t plot out their story. I start from the beginning and write to the end. I don’t plan it on paper, I have a rough idea of what I want to write but it doesn’t come together until I get my laptop and start those words.

CJC: What new projects are you currently working on and what are your goals for the remainder of the year?

JC: I’m currently working on a Y/A Highschool football love story titled ‘One Last Chance.’ Part one was released last year, but I want to finish this novel by the end of the year.’

I also plan to write another biker story and part two in a cowboy romance.

CJC: Any final thoughts you would like to share with the CJC Photography readers?

JC: I’m an Australian author who loves writing about Alpha bikers. When I choose a model/models I try to ensure that they resemble my characters. Most of the time I buy photographs before I have written a book, but I love the inspiration that that image brings. Working with Chris from CJC Photography is always a pleasure, he’s so professional and always ensures that you’re happy with your photograph. So thank you Chris.
