Author Spotlight: Kathy Coopmans

The Wrath of Cain by Kathy Koopmans, CJC Photography, book cover photographer1)      How did you get started as an author and what made you want to pursue that field?

I’ve been a reader my entire life. Always dreaming up these different stories in my head. For years I kept going back to the same story, that’s how I came up with the plot for Shelter Me. Writing was not my first choice for a career, it was a dream. I mean, really to put your words down and then send them out there for the entire world to see was so scary to me. I choose to be a hairdresser first. Always pinning away in the back of my mind this story. One day I looked at my husband and said. “The boys are all grown up. Their gone. I’m going to attempt to write my book.” It took off. I quit my job and here I am!

2)      What hurdles have your overcome while striving towards your goals?

HA! The proper way to write. You don’t sit down and type away thinking its going to be perfect. I self-taught myself, which was like pulling my own hair out. It’s frustrating and yet rewarding at the same time.

3)      Which novel has been your favorite to write and why?

I would have to say this new one. The Wrath of Cain. It’s not so much the story than the story behind the cover. I met Brendan James in New York, in the middle of Times Square. He knew nothing about me, nor me him. My feet gravitated to this man the moment I saw him. He was visually the image I had in my head of Cain. It was fate. Two people meant to meet.

4)      For those looking to become an author, what advice would you give them?

Don’t give up. It does not matter what dream you have. Believe in yourself. Surround yourself with people who are positive and believe in you. A strong support system, starting with supporting yourself is the key to anyone fulfilling their dream.

5)      Favorite motto?

“I’ve got this!”

6)      In one word, how would you describe your writing style?

Edgy!

7)      Which author inspires you the most and why?

My friend Gretchen de la O. She’s an inspiration to so many people. Her voice is heard throughout this book world about being positive and holding your head high, even when things look gloomy.

8)      What is your writing process like?

I’m a morning writer. I have to have it quiet so I can think and totally focus on putting the right words down. And coffee. Must have my COFFEE!

9)      Goals for the remainder of the year?

The year is coming to an end. If I can get the next book in this series out then I will have fulfilled my goal for the year.

10)   What new projects are you currently working on?

I’m currently writing book three in The Syndicate series. Each book is about a different couple and can be read as standalones. As with most series it’s best to read them in order so you know the characters better. After this I have a standalone titled OATH. It’s a Doctor/ Patient forbidden romance.

11)   Any final thoughts you would like to share with the CJC Photography readers?

If you dream it you can do it. Have faith in your true self. Love people deeply. Respect yourself first, the rest of your life will fall in line if you do!
