Author Spotlight: Leigh Ann Lunsford | CJC Photography

Author Spotlight: Leigh Ann Lunsford

Not Over, Leigh Ann Lunsford, Romance, Book Author, CJC Photography, PhotographerLeigh Ann Lunsford is a stay at home mom turned author. She writes Romance/New Adult novels and loves her happily ever after in all books and movies. She lives with her husband, son, and four dogs in Fleming Island, Florida. When she isn’t writing or reading you can find her stuck in front of really bad reality shows or watching Sons of Anarchy. Leigh Ann has a filthy mouth and a huge amount of sarcasm that knows no end. She hopes to give the voices in her head an outlet with many more novels to come.

1) How did you get started as an author and what made you want to pursue that field?
I love to read, and have always been able to communicate better with written words. Sometimes in the spoken word, you say things, and they cannot be taken back; with written words you can convey your feelings, edit, erase, reword . . . Creative writing in high school and college was my outlet.

While traveling every two weeks for my son’s medical treatment, a story came to me and would not let me go. It consumed my thoughts and I would find myself having conversations with my husband about them. He said “Write it.”

2) What hurdles have you overcome while striving towards your goals?
Marketing is a huge hurdle. I am not one to approach people and ask for my work to be reviewed. Yes, I realize that doesn’t work so well for me, but I am trying. I believe in my books and am taking baby steps to get there.  It’s about finding that balance. One might think it is easy because I am a stay at home mom; but, I travel out of state every two weeks, I homeschool, and then the marketing . . .

3) Which novel has been your favorite to write and why?
Up until this point, I would have said book one, Not Enough. It has a piece of “me” in there. After finishing the last book in the series, Not Over, I will say hands down that book. It challenged me, made me grow as a writer, dig deep and tackle issues not talked about. I had to convey the heartache and love at the same time.

4) For those looking to become an author, what advice would you give them?
Don’t doubt yourself. Do it! It isn’t easy and some days you want to scream but keep on keeping on.

5) Favorite motto?
Let it happen around you!

6) In one word, how would you describe your writing style?
Emotional.

7) Which author inspires you the most and why?
This is so cliché . . . Nicholas Sparks. His back story of rejection, his perseverance, and his writing style speaks to me.

8) Goals for 2014?
To get my name out there more, I have a stand-alone I am working on now that the series is complete, and an anthology with ten or eleven other authors out around Christmas time.

9) What new projects are you currently working on?
I am working on a stand-alone, slowly. A second chance love. I have a novella for the anthology, but right now, I am taking a few weeks off and spending time with my family; you can never get back time so embrace the moments you have.

10) Any final thoughts you would like to share with the CJC Photography readers?
Thank you for the chance you took on me letting me pick your brain and really finding the cover of my book. I knew what I wanted to portray and just couldn’t express it. You found it and I love it.
