Author Spotlight: Anna Edwards

Second Chances by Anna Edwards, Anna Edwards romance author, Jered Youngblood model, Charity Hendry graphic designer, CJC Photography book cover photographerCJC: How did you get started as an author and what made you want to pursue that field?

AE: I used to write for a roleplaying team on Twitter. We would write stories about the Musketeers and Black Sails the TV show. I met a lady called Charity Hendry through it and she persuaded me to write a novel. The rest is history and Charity and I are still best friends.

CJC: What hurdles have your overcome while striving towards your goals?

AE: My biggest hurdle has probably been the transition from being predominately number based as an Accountant for twenty years of my life, to more imaginative and English-based. I see the world in a very different way now and I love it.

CJC: Which novel has been your favorite to write and why?

AE: My favorite novel was Tainted Reasoning, the main character in it is autistic, something I know a lot about. I allowed myself to run wild with my thoughts in the book and fell in love with the finished product. I’ve had lots of positive comments on it as well which has been fantastic.

CJC: For those looking to become an author, what advice would you give them?

AE: Believe in yourself, there will be people who’ll try to put you down. I’ll always remember my first convention; I was so nervous and this author came up to me and picked my book up; she looked at it and I felt so happy until she opened her mouth and asked if I was self-published. After I replied yes, she put the book down and walked away saying, “it shows.” I was devastated and now I always vow to give other authors positive comments because we’re all in this together.

CJC: Favorite motto?

AE: You can’t give a character a happy ending until they’ve suffered far too much trauma for one person. I’m evil like that.

CJC: In one word, how would you describe your writing style?

This is hard, I think it would be dramatic. I’d much rather be torturing a character than writing a sex scene sometimes. I really have a dark side.

CJC: Which author inspires you the most and why?

I honestly can’t name one. I find inspiration in so many people I’ve worked with now. Those who want to support, and help are amazing. That is what inspires me.

CJC: What is your writing process like?

AE: I’m a planner — with stickers. I’ve just finished planning the next twelve months of stories I’ll write. That includes the blurbs, character bios, covers, photo inspirations and a chapter by chapter plan of what will happen. Unfortunately, the characters often take all my hard work off at a different tangent, but it only makes me throw in more suffering before they get their HEA.

CJC: What new projects are you currently working on and what are your goals for the remainder of the year?

AE: I’m writing Book Six in my Glacial Blood series, it’s a dark PNR following the story of Katia and Jackson called Stolen Choices and will be released on the 3rd December. After that I have a super-secret but amazing project which I’ll be writing for NaNoWriMo. I can’t wait to share this story with everyone. In December I will be slowing down towards the Christmas break, but it won’t stop me from writing Book Two in the Evergreen series, Evading the Flames, which I write with my ten year old daughter.

CJC: Any final thoughts you would like to share with the CJC Photography readers?

AE: Christopher is amazing and I can’t wait to meet him again in just over a week.

Seriously though, this author world is hard going at times but it’s incredibly rewarding when you have kind people out there who’ll help you out no matter what. Keep them close.

CJC: Thank you so much Anna for taking the time to be featured on my blog. It’s been such a pleasure working with you.
