Author Spotlight: Megan Lowe

CJC: How did you get started as an author and what made you want to pursue that field?
ML: Since a young age I’ve written. It was only after I graduated from university and couldn’t find a “proper” job that I started writing again. From there it just kind of took off!
CJC: What hurdles have your overcome while striving towards your goals?
ML: The romance market is crowded! There’s so many books published every week and trying to get attention to yours, especially when you’re introverted and don’t know how to put yourself out there, is hard. It’s so easy to get swept up and forgotten. I like to think I’m getting better at it, but it’s hard!
CJC: Which novel has been your favorite to write and why?
ML: My most recent one, Breaking Out. I’m not saying that for promotional reasons either! It’s the most me. It has everything I love, motorbike racing, travel, great music, and of course a total sweetheart main character and his kick arse girl! Oh and an awesome photo on the cover!
CJC: For those looking to become an author, what advice would you give them?
ML: Read! Find out what works, what doesn’t work, what you like in books, what you don’t. Then get yourself a great editor! You may think you’ve got it covered, I’m telling you now, you don’t!
CJC: Favorite motto?
ML: Everything happens for a reason.
CJC: In one word, how would you describe your writing style?
ML: Conversational, lol.
CJC: Which author inspires you the most and why?
ML: Tijan. Her writing spans so many genres and tropes and she knocks it out of the park every single time! She’s the one who first inspired me to branch into contemporary romance.
CJC: What is your writing process like?
ML: Labour intensive! I hand write, so that takes a while, then have to type everything up, so it’s a fairly long process.
I also have bits of paper going everywhere because I usually get a heap of ideas while I’m at work, lol.
For the most part I’m a sort of pantser. I know major events I want my story to hit, but how I get there is anyone’s guess!
CJC: What new projects are you currently working on and what are your goals for the remainder of the year?
ML: I just sent a mature YA MM story to beta and on Monday I’ll be starting another mature YA story. It’s a new direction for me, but something I love to read and something I’ve wanted to branch into for a long time.
CJC: Any final thoughts you would like to share with the CJC Photography readers?
ML: Your support truly does mean the world to me! And it’s not just me you’re supporting. It’s the photographers, the models, the editors, everyone. So thank you!
