Author Spotlight: Nashoda Rose

1) How did you get started as an author and what made you want to pursue that field?
I never considered being a writer full-time. I had an established career in the veterinary industry and worked on my novels after work and weekends and I did it because I loved telling stories. I’d been writing since I was a teenager and never thought I’d publish. It was just something I loved to do. When self-publishing arrived I decided that maybe it was time to share. And OMG that was the greatest moment ever and the scariest.

2) Which novel has been your favorite to write and why?
It’s for sure Perfect Ruin. My favorite cover too. Kai was been in my head since I published Torn from You as he had a brief appearance in it. Ever since, I’ve been dying to write his story with London (aka Raven). I knew it would be a challenge as they are both complex characters, but I’ve never felt so connected before. They consumed me for months.

3) For those looking to become an author, what advice would you give them?
Write the first draft. Forget everything else. Just finish the damn book.

4) Favorite motto?
I’ll give you a great quote by Mark Millar that I absolutely love and completely agree with.
“I actually find writer’s block a sign that you’re writing the wrong story.” – Mark Millar.

5) In one word, how would you describe your writing style?
Raw.

6) What is your writing process like?
I hate planning books. The reason being it steals the passion out of it. I love sitting down at my computer and being able to take my characters wherever they tell me with no rules, no plans. Of course, it ends up biting me in the ass come second draft when I have to delete scenes, write new ones because shit doesn’t add up.

7) Goals for 2016?
I plan on releasing five books in 2016. Crazy. Insane. And I don’t know yet if I can do it, but that’s my goal.

8) What new projects are you currently working on?
I have three projects on the go right now. I’m on the final edit of Tyrant (Scars of the Wraiths, Book 2), writing the first draft of Perfect Rage (Unyielding series) and I’m on the second edit of Credo (Scars of the Wraiths, Book 3).

9) Any final thoughts you would like to share with the CJC Photography readers?
As you know Christopher, I love my cover for “Perfect Ruin”. It’s my dream book cover and you helped bring that to life. What a wonderful experience that was.
